The Department of Surgical Studies provides theoretical instruction and practical preparation for the other Institutes and Departments of the Faculty of Health Studies, with which it cooperates closely. The instruction provided includes surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, cardiosurgery, neurosurgery, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology and dermatology.
The basic aims of the Departments research activities are development of mini-invasive surgery, including endoscopic surgery, transnasal microsurgery and manually assisted laparoscopic surgery.
They also include modern diagnostics and therapy of colorectal carcinoma, liver surgery, transplantation surgery, laparoscopic kidney retrieval from living donors, development of effective combined reconstruction and angioinvasive procedures, complex mammological care, oncogynecological and perinatological programmes.
